I have always been a maker, always asking myself the question what if and experimenting. After years of traditional watercolor I was looking for more texture in my work. This led me into the world of mixed media art mainly the world of collage. I now take old everyday papers with a history and give them new life with a technique called mono printing. I add texture and color with a synthetic plate called a Gel Press. I then take these wildly abstract papers and use them like strokes of paint by tearing them and collaging them over a very realistic acrylic underpainting. The tactility of the printing on the papers and the tearing of them becomes almost “Zen”- like, resting my mind into a place of more creativity
In 2013 I had a vision to start a working studio in my hometown of Wake Forest NC called The Artist Loft and Gallery at Wake Forest Coffee in which I now work as director and share with 8 other artist. As director I have curated a few juried shows at The Artist Loft for charity. In 2017 I was asked to be a contributing artist for Gel Press where I did a video showing how I made my paper painting collages. I also was asked to be guest on the Facebook Live show for Jerry’s Artarama sharing my knowledge about gel printing. My artwork has been in many juried shows throughout the Carolinas and Virginia such as Visual Art Exchange, Litmus Gallery, Gallery 311, Carolina Artist Gallery, Arts of Pamlico and Danville Art League at Danville Museum. I also have served on the Wake Forest Studio Tour Board as well as The Cultural Arts Board for multiple years. Presently I am a member of The Carolina Mixed Media Guild and serving on the board as member at large. I also teach children and adult art classes throughout the state of North Carolina.
